In 2021, UK start-ups and scale-ups raised £29.4 billion, accounting for more than a third of the total (£89.5 billion) investment made in Europe. With £29.4 billion in 2021, up from 2020s £11.5 billion, and almost £9 billion of all venture capital investment going into start-ups and scale-ups outside of London and the South East, there is more money moving into UK tech than ever before. Nine of the 29 unicorns that were born in 2021 are from these regions.

With 63% of IT investors coming from overseas in 2020, which is a rise from 50% in 2016, the UK has become more appealing to foreign investors now.
